DOG DAYS OF SUMMER

by | Uncategorized | 0 comments

When I was a youngster and heard the term “dog days of summer” I thought of hot summer days and dogs lazing around because of the heat. How many of you thought that?

After some research, I thought I’d share with you that the term came from a reference to Sirius, the “dog star,” the brightest star in the night sky. The hottest days of summer “dog days” run from July 3 – August 11.

The Romans came up with the phrase “days of the dog star” to describe those sweltering days we experience. Of course, we now have discovered that the radiation of the star doesn’t cause extreme heat, but the tilt of the earth where the northern hemisphere experiences the sun’s direct rays for longer periods of time. (Info taken from science.howstuffworks.com on Google).

Most of you have probably seen the new galaxies from the James Webb Space Telescope and hopefully, like me, have been wowed by the images and realization that we are looking into the past. These pictures create images of just how infinitesimal we are in God’s universe. Of course, the Big Bang Theory is popular, but who’s to say God didn’t create that big bang?

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” Rom 1:20 (NIV)

All this astronomy stuff has given me an idea for another book!

Speaking of which, “Dead Ringer Cowboy” is on the verge of being published. I can’t make promises as to an exact date just yet because I’ve found self-publishing to be a considerable amount of work for a first-time author. But stay tuned to my website for the release.

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog which appears around the 15th of each month. I’m always open to hearing your comments. May you have wonderful “dog days of summer.”
