Do you wear a hat?

There are so many reasons to wear them.

Hats have been around for a long time. Wikipedia tells us that there are records that date back to the Bronze Age, but hats were probably worn long before that.

There are a number of reasons to wear a hat, status or rank, protection, and decoration.

Hats can come under various categories such as helmets, mitres, toques, turbans, baseball cap, headdress, fascinator, cloche, kufi, top hat, ski hat, and one of my favorites, a Stetson.

You’ve probably heard the expression that we wear many hats. Perhaps you’re a manager at work, a father at home, a business owner, a single mom, a community volunteer, a good neighbor, or a niece. All of these are symbolic hats we wear. How well do you wear each one? If you have a large enough closet you could fill the top shelf with your different hats.

My husband wore a military hat or cap for almost thirty years which depicted the fact that he was under authority and belonged to a team of men and women who took an oath to defend our country. A firefighter needs to wear a helmet for protection against the heat, water, and falling debris as he dedicates his/her life to saving others. Even though hats have many uses, and you may have a few lying around your house, do you do them justice? I’m not talking fashion here, but who are you when you wear your hat?

Scripture has told us that women needed head coverings which the Christian church realizes was a cultural norm at the time. More than likely, it showed that the woman was pious and wasn’t flaunting the beauty of her hair. Christ elevated the status of women at that time and didn’t discuss any issue about head coverings for women.

Personally, I like hats, usually on other people. You might entice me to wear a warm hat when it’s ten degrees outside and I must face the winter elements, or it’s a costume party that requires a hat. Overall, I’ll stick to the hat-wearing of woman, wife, mother, great great aunt, aunt, sister-in-law, baker, daughter of the Lord, and author.

Enjoy your hats!
