This month has so much going on. Groundhog Day—the belief that Punxsutawney Phil really predicts winter—at least back east. Valentine’s Day—a holiday promoted by greeting card companies but really started by St. Valentine. Susan B Anthony’s Birthday (15th). Canada’s National Flag Day (15th). President’s Day, which includes the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln (12th) and George Washington (22nd). Black History Month. Mardi Gras and Ash Wednesday often fall in this month too. Typically known as the snowiest month of the year.

February was originally an added month along with January in the Roman calendar around 713 BC. Makes me wonder why we celebrate Christmas in December. Was Jesus really born in the month we now know as the 12th month of the year?

February to me means family birthdays, including mine. I discovered this year more people were born on this day than I realized. Some well-known February 11 births: Jennifer Aniston, the late Burt Reynolds, and Thomas Edison. You might want to Google your birthdate and see who was born then.

I actually like winter, which I know so many people don’t, especially if they live in states where the cold, snow, and ice are troublesome. I have to admit that I never really enjoyed driving on ice but could usually handle the snow on the roads. There’s something about the pure white snow that registers spiritual thoughts about God and his wishes for us to follow his goodwill and the example his Son set for us while on this earth.

Since this doesn’t seem like a blog from someone who writes western romance, I would like to leave you with a nod to Bass Reeves. Don’t know who he is? He’s actually the inspiration for the legend of the Lone Ranger, mostly depicted as a white man in TV shows and movies.
