This month I’d like to share some pointers if you are considering becoming a fiction writer.

- You WILL need an agent if you want to be traditionally published.
- Don’t put out a book before it’s ready. Find a critique group (not your mom or best friend), an editor, and a proofreader.
- Be teachable. Take constructive criticism with grace.
- Don’t use modern-day dialogue for historical dialogue. E.g., “wassup?”
- Always begin your story with the end in mind, especially if you are a “pantser.”
- Avoid big backstory dump. Release the character’s background a little at a time.
- Show strong character motivation and conflict.
- Use all the senses when writing a story.
- Use stronger words, not more words.
- If you are a woman writer, be aware of how men talk (fewer words).
Those are my tips for this month.
If you live in the Castle Rock, CO area, an Author Showcase will be held Friday, September 19, from 4:30-7:30 pm at Cantril School, 312 Cantril Street. Would love to see you there.
By the end of September, I will have the following available on Amazon.

Thanks for spending time with me. I wish you a beautiful autumn with blessings.
See you in November!
