Have you ever been to a book signing?
My past experiences have only been at libraries, but these are things the author considers:
Have you ever thought about what the author needs to attend a book signing?
Be sure you have the time and date correct and fill out any paperwork beforehand (if it’s required).
Will there be a table and chair provided? Or do you need to bring your own? Where will you be located? Is there good “traffic” past your table? Bring an attractive covering for your table. Tip: Only sit down when no one is around–stand to the side or in front of your table.
Haul plenty of your book(s) whether hardback or paperback. Have a minimum of ten of each of your releases. A bookstand(s). Sharpie pens for your autograph.
Charge card setup, Venmo, and cash to make change. Receipts if paid in cash.
Small dish or bowl for drawing slips. Be sure to indicate what drawing is for (e.g., one of your books). Drawing slips for person’s contact info.
Pens.
Signup sheet for newsletter.
Wrapped candy. Yum.
Your business cards
Free takeaways with your info: pens, bookmarks, small, inexpensive item that has to do with your book.
If outdoors, check with the sponsor about protection from the elements (tent?).
I would love to have your comments about this article. Stay healthy, safe and may God bless you!
